The Lowdown on Bollards

Here at ABC Industrial Doors we have a wide selection of products that can be used on their own or in conjunction with one another in order to secure your property to the highest standard possible. For example, many warehouses and factories with roller shutters also like to invest in bollards in order to control traffic around their property during business hours. Read on to find out everything you need to know about bollards… What Are They? By definition, a bollard is a post that is designed to a certain height in order to control traffic and keep members of the public safe. In fact, there is a wide variety of bollards that consumers can choose from depending on the construction that they are involved with. For example, bollards with lighting may be used as a decorative piece, whereas folding bollards may be used to control traffic in and out of a car park. The History When the French were defeated at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, many people do not know that the British actually stripped their ships of anything that was deemed valuable. Unfortunately, the canons were deemed too big to be installed on British ships, so we found a new use for them – they became bollards! In fact, some of the oldest bollards in the UK are old French canons and whilst we now construct bollards from scratch it is possible to track down some of the canons, such as the one located on the South Bank near the Globe Theatre in London. Uses Whilst the main use of a bollard is to control where traffic is and isn’t allowed to go, modern developments have given them a new lease of life. For example, many bollards are also used as a decorative feature in landscaping, in order to add layers to the surrounding area. In addition to this, bollards can also be a vital security features, especially when they are made from structural grade sheet and reinforced with concrete. After all, terrorist attacks that involve vehicles mounting the curb and injuring pedestrians have increased over the past few years and security bollards can help keep people safe. As the experts in everything industrial, it our job here at ABC Industrial to ensure that all of our clients and readers are able to understand the benefits that can be gained from the different products on our website. After all, bollards do so much more that regulate traffic flow! If you have any questions, get in contact with a member of the team today!
