Is Roller Shutter Art the Future?

Is Roller Shutter Art the Future?

Over the years roller shutters have gained a bad reputation for being an eyesore to the high street. After all, it is hard to deny that rows and rows of giant metallic slabs are hardly attractive, and they provide the perfect canvas for graffiti and vandalism. Luckily, there is a new trend that many shop owners are choosing to implement which could revolutionise the acceptability of the roller shutter. Read on to find out more…

Government Crack Down

Although the benefits of roller shutters cannot be understated when it comes to preventing crime, the government has always been against roller shutters from an aesthetic perspective. In fact, in some countries the local council has even banned shop keepers from having them installed, leaving them vulnerable to break-ins.

Vandalism and Graffiti

Those who choose to have roller shutters installed will be all too familiar with the occurrence of graffiti and vandalism. After all, they are the perfect canvas for street art. Unfortunately, not all of the designs make a good impression and property owners either have to replace their roller shutters or risk damaging them by using strong chemicals to remove racist slurs or phallic imagery. In addition to this, the police also do very little to prevent this type of property damage which means that property owners just have to grin and bear it.

An Artistic Approach

In order to combat the increase in graffiti and vandalism when it comes to roller shutters, many shop owners are choosing to hire artists in order to decorate their shutter with appropriate images that reflect the services they have on offer. Not only can this brighten up the high street by reducing the bad reputation of roller shutters and the idea that they are an eyesore, it can also encourage graffiti artists to find another place to vandalise.

Although roller shutters may not have the best reputation, they are an essential security measure for property owners and shop keepers. After all, statistics show that crimes like burglary and vandalism are on the rise which means that having effective prevention methods in place is only getting more and more important.
